Hydroxchloroquine and Chloroquine Toxicity

THE KIDNEY AND LIVER CONNECTION

Hydroxchloroquine and Chloroquine Toxicity

This update is in response to the fact that new information is continually being uncovered regarding Plaquenil toxicity and testing for Plaquenil toxicity.  The primary objective of this paper is to highlight the fact that the levels needed to achieve toxicity are related to the status of functioning of the liver and kidneys which work to clear the drug.

Adult Onset Foveal Macular Vitelliform Dystrophy With SDOCT

Adult Onset Foveal Macular Vitelliform Dystrophy With SDOCT

This Lesson is a collection of 3 cases that highlight adult onset foveal macular vitelliform dystrophy with SDOCT.

Take Home Points:

- dystrophies present with symmetry while degenerations usually present with asymmetry
- dystrophies are usually more insidious in their progression
- in these cases vision is reduced by a thinning of the retina overlying the dystrophy

Macular Ganglion Cell Loss In Ocular Disorders

The Structure/Function Conundrum

Macular Ganglion Cell Loss In Ocular Disorders

- Glaucoma is a neurodegenerative disease causing the loss of retinal ganglion cells
- Ganglion cell numbers range from approximately .7 million to 1.5 million
- Density is greatest in the macula where the ganglion cell layer can be 6 cells deep
- The thinnest and densest layer of ganglion cells is in a 1 to 1.5 mm radius of the fovea
